Start with clear terms

Before a ride, confirm the fare, destination, pickup details, and any extras. Changes should be discussed, not assumed.
Keep control of your journey

Check the driver and vehicle before boarding, and share your plans with someone you trust. You should be able to raise a concern without pressure.
